Though two whole months are left for the mango season to start, Chinna Rasalu, known as the queen of mangoes, has arrived in markets from the gardens. Normally, the Chinna Rasalu mangoes reach markets by the end of January or the first week of February. For the first time, the Chinna Rasalu variety mangoes reached the market at Nunna near Vijayawada on January 1.

A young mango farmer hailing from Nunna, Pamarthi Srinivasa Rao (Peddodu) sold his Chinna Rasalu mangoes in the market for Rs.160 per kg. He harvested about four quintals of mangoes and sent them to the Kaleswara Rao Market in Vijayawada. In total, he earned Rs. 64,000 — Rs.16,000 per quintal.

Speaking to ‘The Pioneer’, mango grower Srinivasa Rao said that every year he sold Chinna Rasalu mangoes in the market early. The mangoes will reach the market in February and the mango sale will be at its peak at the Nunna mango market in April, he said. The first yield of the Chinna Rasalu variety mango is used for ‘Roti Pachadi’ and ‘Mamidikaya Pappu’, he said.

“As people love Roti Pachadi and Mamidikaya Pappu, I sell mangoes in the market during this period every year,” he added.

He said that more Chinna Rasalu mangoes are ready for harvest and he would be sending them to the market in the next week. He expected an increase in the price. As per the market analysis, the price of Chinna Rasalu mangoes would reach Rs.20,000 per quintal in the coming days, he said.
