Minister for Mines & Geology and Excise Kollu Ravindra has reaffirmed that his government aims to complete Machilipatnam Port’s four berths in the first phase by October 2025. The port works began in May last year and the construction is progressing at a brisk pace. He said that for the construction of the port, the Power Finance Corporation has sanctioned a Rs.3,940.42-crore loan to the Machilipatnam Port Development Corporation.
Minister Ravindra attended the 78th Independence Day celebrations held at the Police Parade Grounds in Machilipatnam on Thursday. After hoisting the Tricolour, the Minister received a guard of honour from the police.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ravindra reiterated that the State government is giving top priority to completing the Machilipatnam Port. “Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is keen on the project. The government is striving to develop Manginapudi Beach as a prominent tourist centre and plans are there to construct resorts, guest houses and other infrastructure facilities on the beach,” he added.
He said Rs.80 crore was sanctioned to the Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation under the Amrith Scheme. He thanked the Union government for sanctioning the Machilipatnam – Narsapuram railway line in the Union Budget. Gannavaram airport expansion works are in progress. Within a short period, the State will see significant rise in the number of international tourists, he hoped.
Meanwhile, he referred to the new Excise Policy, which will be coming into force in October. All types of liquor brands — national and international — will be available in shops and bars. Quality liquor will be made available at reasonable prices so that people stay away from illicit liquor, ganja, drugs and non-duty paid liquor. He said the government aims to transform Andhra Pradesh into a drugs-free State and gave a call to the youth to participate in the ‘Nasha Mukth Bharath Abhiyan’.
Besides, Minister Ravindra said that as per the election promises, super six schemes are being implementing in the State. The government is prioritising both welfare and development and so, the entire country is keenly observing the State. We are committed to the overall development of the district, he said.
Krishna District Collector DK Balaji, Joint Collector Geethanjali Sharma, SP R Gangadhara Rao, and others were present.
