The Telangana Cyber security Bureau (TCSB) police has arrested a man for allegedly luring jobseekers into cybercrimes in Cambodia.
The accused was identified as Mohammed Shadab Alam (30), a resident of Bihar. The accused was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi on July 10.
Previously, two other accused identified as K Sai Prasad from Jagtial and Mohammed Abid Hussain Ansari from Pune, who is a native of Bihar were arrested.
On May 16, the victim’s mother from Sircilla stated that her son who was seeking a job was sent to Cambodia by the accused after they collected Rs 1,40,000.
Upon arriving in Cambodia, her son was being confined and forced to commit cybercrimes and forced to work 16 to 17 hours a day. The agents confiscated the victim’s passport.
The victim further informed the complainant that about 600 other Indians were also coerced into committing online frauds.
Based on the complaint, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau initiated the investigation and brought back the victim.
Agents in India lure jobseekers with promises of lucrative overseas employment and collect significant amounts of money under the pretense of processing fees, registration and VISA charges. These candidates are then sent to Cambodia, where they are handed over to Chinese handlers who force them into cybercriminal activities.
Upon arrival in Cambodia, the victims are coerced into engaging in illegal online operations. Any resistance or questioning by the victims is met with physical violence and confinement. After exploiting them for months, the handlers further extort money from the victims by threatening their lives, demanding payment in Bitcoins.
This scheme not only results in financial exploitation but also subjects the victims to severe psychological and physical abuse.
