Martin actress says goodbye to having been a sex symbol!

Must read

A debut is always special for any actor. But this debut of Anveshi Jain is pretty much more special with thrills. The talented star is already in the news for her upcoming project Martin, alongside Dhruva Sarja, directed by AP Arjun.
Anveshi, who has been an actor and singer, is poised to make a significant impact in 2024 with her roles in two big projects and one of them is Martin.
The Pioneer had Anveshi onboard for a quick chat as she shares her excitement of being a part of an actioner, which marks her Kannada debut. Basically, “It’s a very interesting process that I had adopted for Martin. Apparently, I was always training at home with my coach, one of the best we have in Mumbai. So when Martin came my way, I was told by my coach to design the entire life of this particular character.”
In Martin, one may or may not be able to see all of it, but this certainly is going to be something that’s going to be very evident in her dialogues and body language. From giving a full name to the character, deciding its place, to understanding the situations, for her, she says, it was the mental practice of life of its own. “Having to play a character closer to what I would like to play, I started watching Money Heist again and started adaptations and hints from the character Tokyo and took inspiration from her,” says the Commitment fame.
“I have to take over the container, which is full of money; it’s like the entire truck is filled with ‘gaddis,’” she continues to reveal to us. “Then an auto arrives and simply flies off the entire truck, so I had to steal that. I had to sprint through the dusty ground, holding firearms in my hands, leaping and falling on that. Subsequently, after that, the truck is lifted up by a JCB, but it appears to be with a helicopter. I lost my balance while gripping the poles, shooting simultaneously and projecting the pistol shot at the appropriate moment when the truck took up and we were in the air. I was moving while all of those things were going on, so it was a difficult process.” Beyond a doubt, that hints of the intensity that we would be getting to see in Martin on October 11!
“The trailer alone makes you shiver. These action sequences are really well thought out and equipped; numerous views are captured in a single shot. At first, I didn’t really get why we were filming a single, little action scene that would last only five or six seconds. I realised it later when I viewed the results. It was my first time doing action.”
However, what’s the deal? “They were simultaneously placing it on the screen and roughly editing the film to place the right shots to see if they have something more to take,” the actress claims. “It was enjoyable to witness the editing with the appropriate sound effects. Aside from that, Dhruva had a strong sense of conviction in doing these strenuous moments because they may be incredibly taxing, challenging and physically painful. The actors who are being thrashed are not the only ones who are fighting physically.” It appears that the crew has carefully chosen and orchestrated the manner in which they have presented it as larger-than-life action. Goosebumps were given to the actress when she saw Dhruva fighting and she really liked it when the conviction dropped Mike Tyson on the set! She felt that filming something like this required a lot of money and even though it included Mike Tyson, she didn’t want a single minute of it to be cut.
Going ahead, she shares that the location hasn’t certainly influenced the work. However, it’s the love of the art and craft that makes everything look less and less like an obstacle, but more as an opportunity to love what you do and to do what you love.
“I can speak for myself when I say that there were difficulties, times and settings, dust and fight scenes and many difficulties we encountered. However, at the end of the day, we slept soundly because we knew we gave it our all and felt even better about ourselves for managing the difficult tasks we faced,” says the Tera Chhalava fame as she continues, “Martin’s production crew was excellent. It was also evidently tough for me to grasp the language in the scene because Kannada is their native tongue. Previously, the directors or production crew would try to provide me with a script in Hindi or English. The action master will personally visit me and explain this sequence of actions along with any English or Hindi that he can manage to impart. I would be assisted by a translator. It is surprising to learn that Dhruva is one person who is multilingual in Hindi, English and other languages. He was the one who most assisted me in comprehending what we were actually going to shoot, as well as in all of my dialogue and sequences.”
Action without injuries? Anveshi, however, had experienced that too. “The team were very supportive, especially the producers, who were very kind when I faced an injury because of which I could not do the action scenes. Hence, we modified, rectified, and redid the action sequences wherein it was comfortable for me. So it was very kind of them to accommodate so much for a newcomer like me.”
Anveshi also desires to break her image as a sex symbol through her acting prowess, as she shares, “I don’t want my visual appearance to become my definition. I have a lot more to offer, not just in my craft, but as a personality. So, I think Martin is the kind of person who is extremely strong and powerful. She is a gangster, so to speak. This character is my alter ego personally and I loved playing it. It’s like you’re your own superhero and with this, you let the superhero side come out and not fear anything. So I love that fearlessness that you would see in that character.”
Heading towards the end of this chat with Anveshi, who is very excited about the release of the pan-India project Martin, signs off, saying, “After Martin, I’m hoping to work a lot more in action films in Bollywood, a lot more in South. I am doing Telugu projects. I want to work in Tamil also. Kamal Hassan sir, Nayanthara ma’am and Mahesh Babu are all my favourite.”
