A first-year medical student was found dead in his hostel room at the King George Hospital (KGH) postgraduate accommodation facility here on Thursday evening, sending shockwaves through the campus.
The deceased, identified as Motilal, was a native of Srikakulam district and was pursuing his first year in the Radiology Department at KGH.
According to officials from the One Town Police Station, the incident came to light when Motilal’s roommate returned to the hostel after work and found the door locked from the inside. Despite repeated knocking, there was no response. Growing concerned, the roommate broke open the door and found Motilal lying unresponsive.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted. Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident occurred while Motilal was alone in the room. No signs of foul play have been detected so far, officials said.
Motilal’s family has been informed, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. A further investigation is underway.
