Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Water Resources, Government of Maharashtra, to develop two major Pumped Storage Projects with a combined capacity of 4000 MW. These projects include the Kamod Pumped Storage Project in Nandurbar District and the Ghosla Pumped Storage Project in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District. Notably, MEIL is executing its first pumped storage hydro projects under the ‘Build-Operate-Maintain (BOM)’ model.
The MoU signing event was attended by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deepak Kapoor, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, representing the Maharashtra government. MEIL was represented by President RVR Kishore, alongside Girish, Ravi Kiran, and Sameer Jha.
Speaking at the ceremony, MEIL President RVR Kishore said, “These projects will not only meet Maharashtra’s energy needs but also contribute to the state’s development. We are proud to support national progress by supplying power to the grid across India.”
The projects will require an estimated investment of Rs 21,100 crore and are expected to create employment for approximately 2,500 people. MEIL aims to complete the Ghosla Pumped Storage Project within three and a half years, while the Kamod Pumped Storage Project is scheduled for completion in five years.
The off-stream projects will provide at least six hours of daily energy storage. The Pumped Storage Projects will include newly constructed upper and lower reservoirs, operating in a closed-loop system for power generation.
Pumped Storage Projects are recognised for their cost-effective energy storage, grid management, frequency regulation, and integration with renewable energy sources.
