The Rural Development Welfare Society (RDWS), in collaboration with Toyotsu Rare Earth India Private Ltd. (TREI), conducted a comprehensive menstrual health and hygiene awareness programme at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) and High School in Rambilli here on Wednesday. The initiative, a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, aimed to empower young girls with essential knowledge about menstrual health.
Dr. Ooha Mahanthi, Director of RDWS, led the informative session, addressing critical aspects of menstrual health and hygiene. Using engaging slides and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, Dr. Mahanthi emphasised the importance of understanding menstrual health to prevent potential vaginal infections and reproductive health issues. “Knowledge about menstrual health is vital for every girl,” Dr. Mahanthi stated during the session. “It helps safeguard their overall well-being and empowers them to manage their health confidently.”
The programme fostered an open dialogue, encouraging students to ask questions and express their concerns. Dr. Mahanthi patiently addressed each query, using relatable real-life examples to ensure the students felt comfortable and well-informed. “To talk about menstrual health openly is essential, and I’m glad the girls participated actively,” she added. The session concluded positively with the distribution of free sanitary napkins to all participants. The RDWS staff provided nutritious cookies and energy drinks, reinforcing the importance of overall health and well-being.
Special Officer Prameela of KGBV Rambilli, teachers, and the Headmaster of High School Rambilli, Venu Gopal, actively participated in the programme. “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to empowering young girls with essential knowledge and resources,” said Prameela. “We believe that informed girls can lead healthier lives and make better choices for their futures.”
