YSRTP President YS Sharmila may take a final decision on merging her party with the Congress or on having an alliance with it in a week or in around 10 days, it is learnt.

According to sources, Sharmila is in Bengaluru and has been holding talks with Congress leaders from there.

Sharmila is trying to meet former AICC president Sonia Gandhi, who is coming to Bengaluru on July 18, through Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shiva Kumar.

It is learnt that Sharmila may take a final decision about merging her party with the Congress or forging an alliance with it within a week or 10 days.

Due to this, Sharmila is now confined to criticising the BRS and the BJP through social media. Sharmila, who used to criticise the Congress, has completely stopped it although she is fiercely criticising the BRS and the BJP.

According to sources, Sharmila may become active after settling the issue with Congress. She will take up programmes in the Palair constituency in case there is no merger or an alliance with the Congress.

Sharmila will also take up the party’s other programmes as party leaders are waiting for her decision.

One of Sharmila’s followers and a constituency-level leader said on condition of anonymity that it is better for their leader to clear the ambiguity as it is troubling them in their constituency with cadres asking them about Sharmila.

“We too have to take a final decision in case madam enters into an alliance or merges the YSRTP with the Congress depending on conditions,” he said.
