In line with the ongoing efforts to boost tourism development, Tourism Minister Kandukuru Durgesh reviewed the state’s initiatives to establish tourism circuits across the state. During a meeting with the Minister for BC Welfare, Handlooms, and Textiles, S. Savitha, Minister Savitha requested that the Tourism Department collaborate with the Handlooms and Textiles Department to develop handloom clusters and promote handicrafts.
The meeting took place at the State Secretariat on Thursday, where Minister Savitha met Minister Durgesh at the chamber on the first floor of the second block. After exchanging New Year greetings, Minister Savitha briefed Minister Durgesh about several proposals related to the Handlooms and Textiles Department.
With the announcement of the new Tourism Policy for 2024-29 by the State Government, Minister Savitha emphasized the development of tourism circuits in the state and urged the Tourism Minister to work together to bring back the glory of handlooms and handicrafts. She particularly highlighted the need to develop handloom clusters as part of the tourism circuits and promote local handicrafts to provide support to artisans.
Minister Durgesh responded positively to the request, stating that promoting handicrafts and handlooms is an essential endeavour. He assured that his department would work towards increasing the sales of Lepakshi, Apco, and other handloom products in the state.
Minister Durgesh, along with Principal Secretary of Handlooms and Textiles, K. Sunita IAS, Commissioner of Handlooms and Textiles, Rekha Rani IAS, and other officials, attended the meeting.
