Minister inspects road bridge under construction

Minister for Roads and Buildings Vemula Prashanth Reddy on Sunday inspected the road bridge works across the Kakatiya canal. The works are undertaken at a cost of Rs 1.24 crore at the Kakaitya Canal zero point between Sonpet and Pochampad villages under the Balkonda constituency in the Nizamabad district.

Later speaking to the media, the Minister said that the bridges on the Kakatiya Canal are being built with state-of-the-art technology. As much as Rs 90 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of each bridge, he said.

The construction of the bridge could not take place as there is water flowing in the canal. Even in summer, the Balkonda constituency farmers raise maize, ginger and other crops, requiring the canal water.

The flow of water in the canal is continuing unless the water is stopped forcibly.The construction of the bridge with the latest technology was brought to his notice. He approved it. The engineers sought additional funds for the purpose.

When the matter was taken to the notice of the Chief Minister, he sanctioned an additional Rs 50 lakh. The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister on behalf of the people of Balkonda.The bridge works are progressing at a brisk pace.

The works are going to be completed in the next two months, the minister said.Local elected people’s representatives, mandal-level leaders, farmers, people and BRS activists and others accompanied the Minister to the site visit.
