Minister for Endowments Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, along with Principal Secretary S Satyanarayana, inspected the collapsed retaining wall adjacent to the National Highway on the Ghat Road leading to the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada on Tuesday. The collapse, caused by boulders during the recent rains, has raised concerns about the safety of devotees travelling on this busy route to the temple.
During the inspection, the Minister reviewed the progress of the new retaining wall and spoke to the engineers, who explained the steps being taken to prevent further incidents. Minister Reddy also visited the ongoing rock fall mitigation works at the Om Turn, where engineers explained the project’s progress and its importance for preventing future rock falls.
Temple Executive Officer (EO) KS Rama Rao briefed the Minister on preparations for the upcoming Dasara Sarannavaratri festivities, scheduled to begin next month. A full meeting with officials and local representatives, chaired by the Minister, will be held to finalise the plans for the festivities. Reddy emphasised that the new retaining wall must be completed before the festivities commence to ensure the safety of the thousands of devotees expected to visit the temple.
EO Rama Rao assured the Minister that the retaining wall on the Ghat Road will be completed within a month, pledging that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure the safety of devotees visiting the temple for the darshan of Durga Devi.
After the inspection, temple authorities arranged a darshan for Minister Ramanarayana Reddy, and Vedic scholars offered their blessings to both him and Commissioner Satyanarayana. Several officials, including Endowment Department Chief Engineer GV Sekhar, Siddhartha Engineering College Civil Department Dean Prof. Pandu Ranga Rao, Executive Engineers KVS Koteswara Rao and L Rama Devi, and Endowment Department EE Gangadhar, were present during the visit.
