Minister for Water Resources Development Nimmala Ramanaidu visited some of the flood-affected agriculture fields at Penumadam village in Poduru mandal on Sunday.
He saw the submerged paddy crop and interacted with the farmers who explained to the Minister the loss which they incurred. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ramanaidu said that unprecedented rains devastated some districts and some districts are still facing rain threats under the influence of depression.
The Chief Minister reviewed the situation from time to time and directed the officials concerned to take all steps to ensure there would be no loss of life or property due to floodwater. The Chief Minister is getting information from all over the state about the havoc being wracked by the incessant rains.
The official machinery has been directed to put the people living in low-lying areas on high alert. He ordered the engineers of various projects to inspect the crest gates and how they were functioning.
The Minister told the officials to set up relief camps for the rain-affected people and keep ready rice, gas and essential commodities to supply them. He also orders them to take steps to supply drinking water in the rain-affected localities.
Voicing concern about the embankments of the river Godavari, the Minister instructed the officials to keep ready sandbags to plug breaches if takes place. He underlined the need to shift pregnant women from the submerged villages to the hospitals. Â
The government machinery should be well prepared to face any eventuality in the coming 48 hours, Minister Ramanaidu told them. The Minister appealed to people not to come out of their houses unless urgent work normalcy prevailed. Along with officials, the TDP, BJP and JSP leaders accompanied him.
