Minister for Women, Child Welfare, and Tribal Welfare, Gummidi Sandhyarani, has expressed optimism regarding the growth potential of the fisheries sector in the district. The event, held at the Vengalaraya reservoir, was part of a broader initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana aimed at bolstering local fisheries.
Minister Sandhyarani, on Wednesday, released three lakh fish fingerlings sourced from the Vizianagaram fish fingerling production centre. “We are hopeful that the schemes provided by both the Central and State governments will significantly enhance the fisheries sector,” she stated, emphasising the need to improve the livelihoods of local fishermen. “Our aim is to improve the livelihoods of local fishermen and bring prosperity to their families.”
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the fishing community and praised the dedication of Fisheries Department officials. “We appreciate the hard work of the department in the district, which plays a critical role in the success of this initiative,” she added.
In addition to the fisheries initiative, Sandhyarani outlined plans to supply essential resources to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) community. She noted, “We will ensure that hunting equipment, nets, boats, two-wheelers, and bicycles are made available through the Parvathipuram Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA).” This initiative aims to enhance the livelihoods of tribal populations and promote sustainable practices within the community.
Vizianagaram District Fisheries Deputy Director N Nirmala Kumari, Parvathipuram District Fisheries Officer Vemula Thirupathaya, Salur Fisheries Development Officer E Sridevi, local leaders such as Shambhara MPTC President Tiyala Naidu and Chin Cheipuruvalasa Fish Cooperative Society President Surapati Adinarayana were present.
