Minister Sandhya Rani donates Rs 5 lakh to Anna Canteen

Minister of Women and Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare Gummidi Sandhya Rani has announced a contribution of Rs 5 lakh towards the Anna Canteen initiative in Saluru. This commitment was made during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the canteen, held on the Tahsildar office premises.
The Anna Canteen, with an estimated construction cost of Rs 60 lakh, is set to become a vital resource for those in need. Addressing the gathered crowd, Minister Sandhya Rani underscored the programme’s crucial mission to fight hunger and uplift the community. “This initiative represents a substantial step towards alleviating poverty. Our mission is to ensure that no one in our community suffers from hunger,” she declared.
In her remarks, Sandhya Rani also acknowledged the foundational efforts of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who had previously emphasised the importance of such programmes at the beginning of his term. “The Chief Minister’s vision for feeding the poor was a top priority when he took office. Regrettably, this essential programme did not receive the focus it deserved over the past five years,” she reflected.
The Anna Canteen will provide meals at a minimal cost of Rs 5, making it accessible to the widest possible audience. Sandhya Rani encouraged the public to engage with the initiative by celebrating personal milestones—such as birthdays and anniversaries—by donating food. “We invite everyone to share their special moments with our community by contributing to the Anna Canteen. It’s a meaningful way to celebrate and spread joy,” she added.
Due to challenges with site identification, the inauguration of the Anna Canteen has been delayed. However, Sandhya Rani assured that efforts are being made to expedite the process and bring the canteen into operation as soon as possible.
The foundation stone-laying ceremony was attended by Municipal Commissioner Prasanna, former MLA Bhanj Deo, and several other officials.
