State Handloom and Textiles Minister S Savitha engaged with domestic and international industrialists at the ongoing Bharat Tex-2025 event in New Delhi on Sunday. The event, organised to boost market opportunities for handloom products and attract investments, is a key initiative of the Central government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering at the Bharat Pavilion, highlighting the importance of the handloom sector. Minister Savitha outlined the measures taken by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for the development of the textile industry in Andhra Pradesh, including the introduction of a new textile policy.
She emphasised that Andhra Pradesh is an ideal investment destination, offering swift approvals, subsidies, land allotments, and other infrastructural support. She urged industrialists to invest in the handloom sector, citing the availability of skilled manpower in the state.
The minister noted that Andhra Pradesh is known for its high-quality cotton and handloom fabrics. To enhance marketing opportunities, the state government is organising exhibitions and expos in major cities across India.
To ensure financial security for weavers and provide year-round employment, the government plans to establish textile parks and weaving units. Additionally, a 15% subsidy on yarn purchases is being offered. Recognising the rising demand for handloom products, the state has launched e-commerce sales through platforms like Amazon, Myntra, Flipkart, and JioMart, facilitating direct home delivery of handloom products from 20 APCO showrooms.
The state government has also decided to reimburse GST paid by handloom cooperatives and provide free electricity—up to 200 units for handloom workers and 500 units for workers in other sectors.
