Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, P. Narayana, along with the Minister for Mines & Geology and Excise, Kollu Ravindra, conducted a review meeting on Sunday to assess the impact of severe flooding caused by the Krishna and Budameru rivers, which has led to significant submersion in Vijayawada City. The ministers directed officials and local representatives to take urgent action to mitigate the flood’s effects, ensure continuous monitoring, and relocate residents to safer areas.
Dr. G. Srijana, the NTR District Collector, presented a detailed report on the district administration’s relief efforts. She outlined the actions taken to rescue individuals, manage the flood situation, and establish rehabilitation centres for displaced residents. Dr. Srijana stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among various government departments and emergency services to effectively address the crisis.
Dr. Srijana noted that this level of flooding had not been seen in Vijayawada City for two decades. She reassured the ministers that all necessary relief measures were being implemented and that the district administration was actively managing the situation on the ground, with officials deployed across the city. Health camps have also been organised at the rehabilitation centres with the assistance of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.
The meeting was attended by key figures including Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath alias Chinni, Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao, Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, Joint Collector Nidhi Meena, Municipal Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra, Assistant Collector Shubham Nokhwal, and other important officials.
