Ministers visit flood-affected areas, assure relief to ryots

A Group of Ministers (GoM), including V Anitha, K Atchannaidu, K Durgesh and N Ramanaidu visited some of the damaged crops in flood-affected areas on Sunday.
Minister for Home V Anitha, Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu, Water Resources Development Minister N Ramanaidu and Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh visited flood-ravaged crops at some villages in Undrajavaram and Nidadavole mandals.  Collector P Prashanthi explained to the Minister the extent of damage caused by the Godavari flood.  
The Ministers distributed essential commodities to some of the flood victims at Tallapalem village and also inspected the inundated houses.
Later talking to the media, Agriculture Minister Achennaidu the Yerrakaluva drain damaged crops in 20 constituencies. The farmers incurred heavy losses due to floods, he deplored.
“The de-siltation works in the Yerrakaluva were not carried out during the erstwhile YSRCP regime resulting in the floodwater flowing into villages. Since the floodwater is not flowing freely to downstream, it inundated the agriculture fields to a large extent” the Minister made it clear.
Atchannaidu ordered the officials concerned to take steps to plug the breaches development to canal and rivulet bunds on war footing.  He vowed to take up work to resolve the Yerrakaluva flood threat permanently.  He also directed the officials to submit proposals for the works immediately. He advised the officials to be on high alert that Godavari is in spate again with heavy inflows.
