NTR District In-Charge Collector, Dr. Nidhi Meena, along with Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rama Mohana Rao, officially launched the “Mission Pothole-Free Roads Andhra Pradesh” programme with a traditional ‘pooja’ for a new road project. This road will connect GNT Road to the Vijayawada-Machilipatnam Road via Auto Nagar, near the Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Vijayawada. The Roads and Buildings Department has allocated Rs 10 lakh for this initiative.
Dr. Nidhi Meena highlighted that the NTR district has around 1,309 km of roads, including 876 km of major district roads. In the first phase of the pothole-free mission, the district has earmarked Rs 7.71 crore for 54 roadworks, which are set to be completed by December. She provided a breakdown of the projects, noting that 14 works will take place in Mylavaram Constituency, 12 in Tiruvuru, 8 in Jaggayapet, 13 in Nandigama, three in Vijayawada East, two in Vijayawada West, and two in Vijayawada Central.
MLA Gadde Rama Mohana Rao emphasized the importance of well-maintained roads, stating that road infrastructure has faced neglect over the past five years, leading to difficulties for the public. He assured that a comprehensive plan is in place to finish the ongoing works by December 31 under the pothole-free programme.
Also present were Vijayawada RDO K. Chaitanya, R&B SE T. Satyanarayana, EE N. Krishna Naik, DEE Sasibhushan, 4B Construction Monopolist Tummala Jagadish, former ILA chairman Sunkara Durga Prasad, and other officials.
