To promote awareness about the exercise of voting rights, the Election Commission of India celebrates National Voters’ Day on January 25 every year across the country. As the 25th falls on a holiday this year, the 15th National Voters’ Day oath ceremony was conducted a day earlier, on Friday, at the State Secretariat. Mukesh Kumar Meena, Principal Secretary (Political) General Administration Department, led the ceremony with Secretariat employees.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Secretary MK Meena stressed the importance of voting as the cornerstone of democracy. He reminded everyone that as citizens and voters of India, it is their responsibility to exercise their voting rights. He also highlighted the state’s record in the last elections, where it achieved the highest voter turnout in the country, with over 80% participation.
Meena noted that the Election Commission of India conducts the electoral process in a democratic manner throughout the country and that the aim of National Voters’ Day is to increase awareness about voting rights among all voters. He also mentioned that during the National Voters’ Day celebrations, senior voters who have consistently exercised their voting rights are recognized and honored. Special efforts are also made to acknowledge those who raise awareness about the importance of voting and encourage others to vote.
Earlier, in the oath-taking ceremony, Meena and the participants made a pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of India. They affirmed their commitment to ensuring peaceful, free, fair and impartial elections, undisturbed by caste, religion, language or other external influences and promised to vote confidently in every election.
The National Voters’ Day ceremony was attended by various officials, including DS (General) Kali Kumar from the General Administration Department, Mallikarjun, Chief Security Officer and several other department officials and staff members.
