MLA offers to address ASHA workers’ problems

Rajahmundry City MLA Aadireddy Srinivas assured the Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers of taking steps to resolve their problems.
MLA Adireddy Srinivas held a meeting with the ASHA workers here on Wednesday. The ASHA workers took their problems to the notice of the MLA  and urged him to take steps to resolve them.
The ASHA workers complained to the MLA that they are not allowed into the Government hospital when they take pregnant women.  Moreover, there are no facilities for them in the GGH. The government hospital doctors and staff rebuked them for taking pregnant women to the government hospital for testing, the ASHA workers told the MLA. They are not allowed into the gynecology block, they informed the MLA.
Responding to the ASHA workers’ complaints and problems, the MLA assured to resolve their every problem. He said that priority is being given for the health sector in the new government. He asserted that he is committed to create a healthy Rajahmundry and sought the cooperation of ASHA workers.
MLA Adireddy Srinivas recalled that when his father Adireddy Appa Rao was the MLA, the gynecology ward was set up in the GGH. The onus of pregnant women’s health lies on the ASHA workers, he said and pointed out that the GGH Superintendent stated that the birthrate in the district had come down.
The MLA informed the ASHA workers that he would convene a meeting every 15 days and discuss all the issues. All the problems which the ASHA workers brought to his notice would be resolved, the MLA promised.  
GGH Superintendent Lakshimi Suryapraha gave some suggestions to the ASHA workers on the care to be taken regarding the pregnant women’s health.  She also assured of allocating a room in the GGH especially for the ASHA workers. She directed the ASHA workers to wear uniforms and tag identity cards. DMHO K Venkateswra Rao and other officials were among those who were present.
