Mahabubnagar MLC Naveen Kumar Reddy has raised concerns in the Legislative Council on Saturday regarding the severe financial distress faced by fair price shop dealers across the state due to the non-release of commission funds for the past three months. Highlighting that over Rs 70 crore in arrears remain unpaid, he urged the government to take immediate action to address the issue. Naveen Kumar Reddy pointed out the tragic case of a dealer, Prabhakar, who recently died by suicide in Chegunta, reportedly due to financial stress. He reminded the government of the Congress party’s pre-election promises, which included a salary of Rs 5,000 and a commission of Rs 300 for dealers. In addition to the dealers’ plight, the MLC also drew attention to the deteriorating conditions in Gurukul schools. He expressed concerns over students falling ill due to food poisoning and other health issues, emphasising that students from poor families primarily depend on these institutions for education.
