It is a harrowing experience for students staying in a hostel attached to the model school at Gangaram under Kataram mandal in the district.
While the building requires repairs, the living conditions plague students in the hostel.
As if this is not enough, the power cut in the hostel made the night nightmarish on Wednesday. “It was a nightmarish experience,” said a student. Insects and mosquitoes invade the hostel rooms through cracks in the broken windows and doors.
The students experienced difficulties in answering nature’s call as the hostel had no water on Thursday. The hostel is facing power often due to a faulty cable that supplies power to the building.
According to inmates, maintenance of the hostel has never been proper.
The building which housed the hotel is in poor condition. The windows and doors to the rooms in the hostel have been broken. The students spent sleepless nights.
Students from Class 9 to Second Year Intermediate are staying in the hostel.
There are 100 students in the hostel. With the power supply snapped, the students could not answer nature’s call and had baths.
Kasturba Gandhi Balikala Vidyalaya in-charge principle Chall Sunitha is an acting principal for Gangaram Model School. But, she had not visited the hostel for the last two months.
The caretaker in the hostel has been forced to take care of every aspect of the situation, it is said.
A stinking smell is emanating from the rice infested with weevils in one of the hostel rooms. The borewell dug in the hotel remains unused as the motor has not been fixed to it.
The students appealed to the district administration to set things right and ensure that the student can pursue their studies without
distraction.
