Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy said that NRIs who wanted to develop their own country are an inspiration for him.

He said that the country’s youth and people of Indian descent are crucial for India in its game plan to become the world’s pharmacy hub and the ‘factory of the world.’

Attending a meeting arranged with NRIs by the Indian Consulate in New York, Kishan said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies were the reason why recession failed to impact India.

He shared his views on the progress of the nation with NRIs. He also recalled his visit to the US with Modi and Union Minister Prahlad Joshi in 1994.

He said that every Indian on US soil is acting as an ambassador of the country to protect the country’s honour and that NRIs have boosted India’s image. Kishan said that compared to former times India is progressing well. Although the whole world has been hit by recession, India is moving forward steadily without getting caught in its clutches.

He said that India was stable during the Corona pandemic due to the policies adopted by the Modi government. He reminded that India, which is the world’s fifth largest economy, receives USD three billion as foreign investment every year.

He said that compared to the foreign exchange reserves in 2014-15 (USD 45.15 billion), in May 2023, forex reserves were USD 600 billion dollars. He said that the value of India’s trade and services exports will cross USD 750 million in 2022-23.

Recalling that many intellectuals and opposition leaders spoke sarcastically when Prime Minister Modi coined the slogan ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhara Bharat,’ he said that due to Modi’s decision, India is now strong in the services sector as well.

He said that India has built the world’s largest start-up ecosystem due to the encouragement it gives to start-ups. There are 85,000 start-ups in India. Kishan reminded that there are around 100 unicorns in the country and that their value is above USD 350 billion.

Due to programmes like giving Product Based Incentives (PLIs) to 14 key sectors, he said that India now has the best rankings compared to 2014 on international development indices.

He said that during the Corona epidemic, India was achieving stable development without being under any pressure.

He said that India’s tourism sector and hospitality industry are developing after the Corona pandemic. He said that as said by the Prime Minister every expatriate Indian should encourage at least five non-Indian friends to visit India.

Going one step further the Union Minister suggested that NRIs should encourage their non-Indian friends to invest in India.

Kishan said that we who are celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav need to pay more attention to making the country a global leader in the next 25 years.
