The southwest monsoon has come to Telangana, bringing relief from the summer heat and triggering heavy downpours across several districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that rains are expected in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Mahbubnagar, Narayanpet, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Malkajgiri, Siddipet, Rajanna Sircilla, Jagtial, Kumaram Bheem, Mancherial, Peddapalli, and Karimnagar districts until 7 pm on Monday.

Hyderabad witnessed sharp showers in many areas due to a surface trough. Localities like Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, SR Nagar, Lingampally, Gachibowli and Rayadurgam recorded considerable rainfall, disrupting traffic and causing congestion.

The IMD’s advisory has prompted civic authorities to remain on alert, especially in low-lying and waterlogging-prone areas.

The monsoon, while a welcome change for farmers and the public, has also raised concerns about preparedness to tackle flooding in urban areas like Hyderabad.
