Monsoon likely to advance by May 13

Heatwave conditions continue in parts of AP

The Meteorological Centre has forecast that the Southwest Monsoon is very likely to advance into the South Andaman Sea, parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal, and the Nicobar Islands around May 13.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging from 40 to 60 kmph are likely to occur at isolated places across Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema over the next five days. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many, few, or isolated locations across Coastal AP and Rayalaseema over the next seven days.

There is no significant change expected in maximum temperatures during this period. Heavy rainfall was recorded in Chittoor district of Rayalaseema during the past 24 hours, while isolated rainfall occurred in parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema. The highest maximum temperature of 40.6°C was recorded at Jangamaheswarapuram in Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, State Disaster Management Authority Managing Director Ronanki Kurmanath stated that day temperatures are likely to range between 41°C and 43.5°C on Sunday.

Heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in 8 mandals of ASR district, 16 mandals in Anakapalli, 4 in Anantapur, 1 in Annamayya, and 30 mandals in Chittoor district on Sunday. The highest temperatures recorded on Saturday included 41.8°C at Renigunta, 41.1°C at Muramanda in East Godavari district, 40.8°C at Muddur in YSR district, and 40.7°C at Mekalavaripalli mandal.
