Director General of Police (DGP) Ravi Gupta said that 73,414 civil police personnel, 500 units of Telangana State Special Police (TSSP), 164 companies of central armed police forces, three special companies of Tamil Nadu, 2,088 other department personnel and from Chhattisgarh and Karnataka and 7,000 home guards have been deployed for elections.
Since March 16, around 9,123 cases have been registered under excise, narcotics, Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Representation of the People Act, 1951. In those cases, 8,231 were booked under the Excise Act. Others have been registered under various Acts and Sections. In the critical locations, where we are anticipating some problems we have deployed para military forces, along with the state police.
“There is Maoist-affect in three districts, which are Kothagudem, Mulugu and Bhupalpally. We have visited them. We will ensure safe and peaceful elections in those areas also.”
Ravi Gupta said that the police have deployed according to the local situations. State Police have seized more than Rs 190 crore worth of cash, liquor, narcotic drugs, precious metals and other freebies since March 16. Check posts are working well.
In all, 428 Fixed Static Teams (FST), 462 Static Surveillance teams (FST), 89 teams for inter-State borders and 173 inter-district check posts have been set up as per the Election Commission of India rules.
The DGP said that a total of 34,526 individuals identified as rowdies and offenders have been bound overed.
