The Institute of Forest Biodiversity (IFB), functioning under the Council of Forest Research and Education, Hyderabad, has joined hands with the Telangana Forest Academy in an effort to enhance research and training in forest-related matters. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two organisations, solidifying their commitment to collaborate and exchange knowledge in the field, on Friday.
The signing ceremony took place at the Telangana Forest Academy in Dulapally, with AS Rawat, Director General of the Forest Research and Education Council as the chief guest.
During the ceremony, RM Dobrial, Chief Conservation Officer of Forestry (PCCF, HOOF), emphasised the need to focus on Telangana’s climate, tree species and forest development as part of the collaborative agreement.
He urged the organisations to conduct research on pest management for neem trees and explore sustainable agro forestry systems as alternative sources of income for farmers. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of developing high-quality plant varieties to cater to the growing demand for sandalwood cultivation. The PCCF also requested the state government to study the environmental benefits of Telangana’s ambitious greening initiative.
The IFB studies forest conservation practices, soil and moisture conservation, development of forest tree species, and the prevention of plant pests and diseases, and aims to further its efforts through this partnership. The Telangana Forest Academy is known for its training programmes for forest personnel.
Director General AS Rawat said that they are committed to providing skill training to forest department officers and staff, utilising the advanced technology available through the national organisation. He highlighted the significance of modern techniques and tools in enhancing the capabilities of forest personnel.
Among the attendees were PCCF (Compa) Lokesh Jaishwal, PCCF (Vigilance) Alusing Meru, PCCF (FAC) MC Pargain, IFB Director E Venkat Reddy, Forest Academy Director Ash and CCF Ramalingam.
