A delegation led by CPM State secretary V Srinivasa Rao has urged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to mount pressure on the BJP-led NDA government to get the Special Category Status (SCS) for the State, as TDP is part of the NDA alliance. After bifurcation, the Central government did injustice to the State by not fulfilling the assurances such as SCS and the special package for the backward districts, the delegation said.
The CPM delegation led by V Srinivasa Rao, MA Gafoor, Y Venkateswara Rao, Ch Babu Rao and K Prabhakar Reddy met Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and submitted a representation on Thursday. Later, the CPM State office released a press statement in this regard. At the time of the State bifurcation, the Central government had announced several schemes and projects for Andhra Pradesh. However, many of them have not been fulfilled even 10 years after the bifurcation. Major ones are: Polavaram project, rehabilitation and resettlement for the displaced people, capital Amaravati construction, Kadapa Steel Plant, Visakhapatnam Railway Zone, and Central Educational Institutions besides the Special Category Status, the delegation said.
