MP alleges misuse of disaster relief funds during YSRCP rule

Must read

Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar accused the previous YSRCP government of misusing disaster relief funds and failing to support the public during natural calamities.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on the Disaster Management Amendment Bill 2024, MP Mahesh Kumar criticised the YSRCP regime for neglecting developmental issues, particularly the Budameru drainage system, which he claimed led to the severe flooding in Vijayawada during September rains.
He lauded former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for his proactive role during the Vijayawada floods, personally overseeing relief measures for two weeks. He contrasted this with the alleged inaction of the YSRCP government, accusing it of diverting funds meant for Budameru’s development and disaster relief, enriching themselves at the cost of the public.
The MP also highlighted Naidu’s efficient handling of Cyclone Hudhud in Visakhapatnam, where swift restoration and relief measures brought the city back to normalcy.
Referring to the recent floods in the Godavari River and the Peddavagu breach, which caused inundation in Velairpadu Mandal, Mahesh Kumar praised his coalition government for promptly initiating relief operations and monitoring the situation until normalcy was restored.
He expressed anger at YSRCP representatives for allegedly making baseless allegations in the Lok Sabha and misleading the public.
