Eluru Lok Sabha member Putta Mahesh Kumar has assured cocoa farmers of securing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce, stating that he would meet Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu to discuss the issue.
Accompanied by Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar, the MP visited the Oil Palm Research Centre at Lakshmipuram in Pedavegi mandal on Saturday. During a meeting with the scientists at the centre, they briefed the MP on their ongoing research and experiments. Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Kumar emphasised the importance of ensuring that the benefits of agricultural research reach the farmers.
The MP reiterated his commitment to ensuring fair prices for cocoa farmers and mentioned that he would submit a memorandum to Agriculture Minister Atchannaidu. “I plan to propose the establishment of a chocolate manufacturing company in the region, which will greatly benefit cocoa farmers,” he revealed.
Mahesh Kumar also promised to support the oil palm farmers in Eluru district and work continuously to address their concerns. He noted that the promises he made during the general elections were being fulfilled in order of priority.
The MP further assured farmers cultivating lime crops that their issues would also be resolved. A group of farmers from Telangana felicitated Mahesh Kumar for his efforts in securing remunerative prices for oil palm produce.
