In a surprising turn of events, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani), from the opposition TDP, has extended support to the partyโs chief, Chandrababu Naidu, during a crisis, leaving many bewildered about his recent stance.
Until recently, Nani had been openly critical of Chandrababu Naidu and had even hinted at the possibility of leaving the TDP. He voiced his concerns about Naidu supporting his brother Kesineni Chinniโs bid for the Vijayawada parliamentary seat and endorsing party detractors Bonda Uma and Nagul Meera.
However, on Saturday, Nani executed a sudden U-turn by standing up for the TDP chief when the ruling party ministers and leaders criticised Naidu and the TDP workers in Punganur and Mulakalapadu on Friday. Nani accused the stateโs law and order situation of deteriorating significantly.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nani sought central intervention in the situation in Andhra Pradesh and expressed worries about the security concerns surrounding Chandrababuโs visits to different places in the state.
โRecent events have shown a significant escalation in violence by YSRCP activists, resulting in injuries to civilians and policemen, as well as damage to public property. The recent incidents in Angallu village, Kurabalakota mandal in Annamayya district, and in Punganur, Chittoor district during Naiduโs visit have raised serious apprehensions about the stability and safety in the state,โ Nani wrote.
He further alleged the involvement of YSRCP ministers in sending goons to disrupt Naiduโs events, leading to violent confrontations between party cadre.
Nani expressed concern that such actions not only threaten the lives of citizens but also pose a severe threat to the democratic process and civil liberties.
Nani also criticised the inadequate response from the police and the attacks on their personnel, which further exacerbated the situation.
He stressed the need for a thorough investigation into these incidents and urged authorities to take appropriate measures to ensure effective law enforcement in handling such situations in the future.
