Local MP Putta Mahesh Kumar has appealed to the Union Secretary for Food Processing Industries, Anita Praveen, to take steps towards establishing food processing units in the Eluru district, citing the area’s ample infrastructure as a key asset for such industries.
The MP met with Secretary Anita Praveen in New Delhi on Tuesday, where he presented a detailed representation highlighting the district’s infrastructure, which he believes is well-suited for the establishment of food processing units.
In his appeal, Mahesh Kumar emphasised that the Eluru district is equipped with essential infrastructure such as reliable water supply, good road and railway connectivity, and abundant agricultural products. These factors, he pointed out, make the district ideal for setting up agro-based industries, and he called for efforts to develop Eluru as a food processing hub.
He further explained that the establishment of food processing industries would not only add significant value to agricultural products but also create job and employment opportunities within the Eluru Parliamentary Constituency.
“Farmers in Eluru depend on agriculture for their livelihood. The establishment of food processing units will strengthen the local economy and benefit farmers by offering better opportunities,” the MP stated.
Mahesh Kumar also highlighted the variety of crops cultivated in the Eluru district, including rice, wheat, maize, sugarcane, fruits, cocoa, palm oil, coconut, lemons, and vegetables. This diverse agricultural base, he argued, makes the region particularly suited for food processing ventures.
In his representation, the MP stressed that food processing industries would allow farmers to sell their produce locally at remunerative prices, while also generating both direct and indirect employment in rural areas. This, he added, would help reduce the migration of rural youth to urban centres in search of work.
Union Secretary Anita Praveen responded positively to the MP’s request. She assured Mahesh Kumar that the government would provide the necessary incentives, subsidies, and assistance to support the establishment of food processing industries in the region. She also promised full support to transform Eluru district into a prominent food processing hub.
Following the meeting, MP Putta Mahesh Kumar expressed his confidence that the establishment of these industries would greatly benefit the local economy and the farming community in Eluru.
