Prof MS Swaminathan, regarded as the father of the Green Revolution, passed away in Chennai on Thursday. He was 98.
He was hailed as a hero who turned India into a food-sufficient nation from a food importer.
Swaminathan is known globally for his leadership programmes in agricultural reforms and sustainable food production.
He has received 86 honorary PhD degrees from universities all over the world and has over 1,200 papers to his credit.
