Veteran actor Rajendra Prasad recently addressed reports surrounding his comments about the portrayal of characters in films, particularly referencing the blockbuster Pushpa. At an event, Rajendra Prasad remarked about certain contemporary roles played by actors. His comments, including a reference to a red sander smuggler becoming a hero, sparked speculation on social media.
On Wednesday, the senior actor clarified his stance, firmly denying the reports. “My words about Pushpa were completely misinterpreted. Not long ago, I met Allu Arjun and we both laughed about the social media rumours. Some characters we see on-screen are inspired by real people in society. My own films, such as Appula Apparao and Ladies Tailor, are prime examples of this concept,” explained Rajendra Prasad.
Having spent nearly four decades in the film industry, Rajendra Prasad was asked about never receiving a Padma Award. Responding candidly, he said, “I have never thought about not receiving the Padma Award. It has never been a concern for me,” he remarked. The actor is currently promoting his latest film, Shashtipoorthi, which reunites him with his Ladies Tailor co-star Archana after many years. Speaking highly of the film, Rajendra Prasad said, “Shashtipoorthi is a beautiful, family-friendly movie. The ceremonies depicted in the film are integral to our culture and traditions. This is a film for those who respect Telugu culture and values.”
He also drew a connection between the new film and his previous work, Aa Naluguru. “A song from Aa Naluguru is often played during the mourning ceremonies of celebrities. The lyrics for that song were written by Chaitanya Prasad and he has penned the songs in Shashtipoorthi as well,” said Rajendra Prasad.
Talking about Archana, he said, “Archana was a seasoned performer even when we worked together in Ladies Tailor in 1986. In Shashtipoorthi, our characters are solidly written and carry great depth. I have always felt a sense of responsibility as an actor since my days at the training institute. Being part of this film is truly a blessing.”
Directed by Pavan Prabhas and produced by Rupeysh, who also plays a lead role, Shashtipoorthi promises to be a celebration of Telugu culture and traditions. Rajendra Prasad’s involvement in the film underscores his dedication to meaningful and culturally resonant cinema.
