Naidu govt pushed State into financial mess: Jagan

Must read

Former chief minister and YSRCP chief, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of corruption, financial mismanagement, and failing to fulfill election promises, leading to growing public resentment. Speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada on Thursday, the YSR Congress Party chief highlighted the government’s failures and alleged that Naidu’s administration was causing economic distress in the State.
Jagan criticised Naidu for burdening Andhra Pradesh with loans amounting to Rs 1.45 lakh crore, questioning where the funds had gone. He alleged that corruption within the government had resulted in a financial crisis, with investors like Jindal being pushed out of the state. He also blamed the administration for the rising costs of essential commodities, including sand and liquor, and for failing to generate employment opportunities.
He accused Naidu of spreading misinformation about the state’s financial health and governance while dismantling key welfare schemes. According to Jagan, 143 promises made during the elections—spanning education, healthcare, agriculture, and social welfare—have been ignored. Instead, existing welfare programs have been disrupted, affecting farmers, students, and women. He also pointed to the retrenchment of ward and village secretariat employees as a failure of governance.
Jagan criticized Naidu’s handling of medical education, citing the rejection of medical seats and the privatization of healthcare.
In contrast, he emphasized his administration’s efforts to establish 17 new medical colleges to make education and healthcare more accessible.
Dismissing Naidu’s claims of a 13% growth rate, Jagan pointed to negative state revenue growth from June to December 2023. He also questioned Naidu’s recent Davos visit, stating that no substantial investments resulted from it. With public dissatisfaction rising just nine months into the coalition government’s tenure, Jagan vowed to continue challenging Naidu’s policies and holding his government accountable.
