Family members of the iconic Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder and former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao (NTR), have made their way to Delhi to participate in the grand unveiling of a commemorative one hundred rupee coin, honouring the late NTR. This coin will be unveiled by President Droupadi Murmu on Monday.

The Central Government has extended its invitations to the family members of Dr. NT Rama Rao, and notably, Telugu Desam chief, Chandrababu Naidu, who are expected to be in attendance. Last night, they made their way to the capital city, Delhi. The entourage includes NTR’s sons, daughters, and their respective families, with the added presence of Andhra Pradesh BJP president Daggubati Purandeswari. It remains uncertain whether the popular actor, Junior NTR, and Kalyan Ram will also join the event, though many other celebrities who were closely associated with NTR have received invitations.

The commemorative NTR coin, developed by the Central government to mark NTR’s centenary celebrations, is an exquisite 100 rupee coin with a diameter of 44 mm. Comprising 50 percent silver, 40 percent copper, 5 percent nickel, and 5 percent zinc, one side of the coin elegantly showcases three lions and the Ashoka Chakra. On the reverse side, a portrait of NTR himself graces the coin, with “Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Satajayanti” inscribed in Hindi. Notably, the coin is also inscribed with the years 1923-2023, commemorating NTR’s centenary celebrations.

In an interesting twist, Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi, Chairperson of the AP Telugu and Sanskrit Academy and the late NTR’s wife, expressed her disappointment over not receiving an invitation to the event. She registered a complaint with the President of India, and Union Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, stating that, as NTR’s wife, she should have been invited to this momentous occasion. Despite her plea for intervention, her request went unanswered.
