Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused his political rival and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu of indulging in political theatrics regarding Muslim reservation while maintaining an alliance with BJP, which has announced that it will abolish the 4% reservation for Muslims.
In a fiery speech during an election rally in Kurnool on Thursday, the Chief Minister likened Naidu’s political manoeuvring to that of a chameleon, highlighting the contradiction between Naidu’s purported concern for minority votes and his allegiance with a party seeking to revoke minority reservations.
Asserting the significance of Muslim reservations, CM Jagan said the reservation isn’t based on religion but is intended for the backward class within the Muslim community. He denounced any attempt to view minorities through a discriminatory lens, affirming his party’s support for the dignity and rights of minorities.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his commitment to minority welfare, citing various initiatives undertaken by the YSR Congress Party, including schemes such as ‘Shadi Thofa’, recognition of Urdu as a second language, and political reservations for minorities.
He also criticised Naidu’s track record, questioning his contributions to the minority community.
Jagan flays Naidu’s welfare record
Continuing his tour, Chief Minister Jagan addressed a gathering in Kalyandurg, where he launched a scathing attack on Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure, accusing him of neglecting the welfare of the poor and exploiting his position for personal gain. Jagan urged voters not to be swayed by Naidu’s pre-election cash distributions, emphasising the need to assess which party has truly worked for the betterment of the State.
NDA silent on Special Category Status
In Rajampet, CM Jagan expressed disappointment over the NDA’s failure to address the State’s pressing issues, particularly the long-standing demand for special category status. He criticised the alliance for resorting to mudslinging instead of addressing crucial matters and accused them of representing only the interests of the capitalist class.
Highlighting his government’s achievements, Jagan underscored the fulfilment of 99% of the party’s electoral promises and outlined plans for the region, including the establishment of a new medical college and collaboration with international universities. He also condemned the alliance’s opposition to English-medium education in government schools, labelling it as hypocrisy.
CM Jagan reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance and equitable development, contrasting it with the perceived failures of the previous administration.
