The Andhra Pradesh State Government, in collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture under PSUs of the Government of India, is set to launch the ‘Urjaveer Programme’ on Saturday at Poranki in Krishna district. The initiative aims to empower people by promoting energy-efficient appliances, contributing to environmental conservation and economic development.
The launch event will witness the participation of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as the Chief Guest, with Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal Khattar attending as the Special Guest. The occasion will also mark the introduction of the National Efficient Cooking Programme and the PMAY Housing Programme.
Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K Vijayanand, who reviewed the arrangements at the venue along with senior officials, emphasised the need for meticulous preparations. The officials present included APGENCO MD KVN Chakradhar Babu, JMD APTRANSCO Kirthi Chekuri, DISCOM CMDs Pattansetti Ravi and I Prudhvi Tej, District Collector D K Balaji, District SP K Santosha Rao, and EESL State Head Pavan, among others.
Mr Vijayanand highlighted that the Urjaveer Programme is a unique initiative focused on environmental sustainability and socio-economic upliftment.
Under this scheme, 1,12,000 private registered electricians across the state will be trained and transformed into ‘Urjaveers’. These individuals will promote six types of energy-efficient appliances, including LED bulbs, LED tube lights, BLDC ceiling fans, 5-star-rated air conditioners, induction stoves, and LED inverter bulbs.
In addition to selling these appliances, the Urjaveers will educate the public about energy conservation and its benefits, thereby fostering greater awareness. They will also earn success fees for every appliance sold through the eeslmart.in portal.
“The Urjaveer initiative is a step in promoting energy efficiency at the grassroots level. It aligns with India’s energy-saving goals while empowering citizens to adopt sustainable practices and achieve economic benefits,” said  Vijayanand.
