Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu has called upon President, Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to intervene in the ‘dire’ situation prevailing in Andhra Pradesh.

In separate correspondences addressed to President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, Naidu expressed grave concern regarding the alarming state of chaos and lawlessness within the State.

Naidu’s letters vividly illustrate the alarming trajectory of governance under Chief Minister Jagan, characterising it as a “governance of destruction” epitomised by the wanton demolition of the “Praja Vedika” soon after his ascent to power in 2019. Naidu also highlighted the Chief Minister’s misuse of public funds in pursuing frivolous legal actions related to Amaravati, leading to an unprecedented number of contempt cases against bureaucrats. This blatant disregard for established norms, Naidu conveyed, has eroded the credibility of governance under Jagan.

The former chief minister elucidated how critical institutions, including the State Election Commissioner (SEC) and the Public Service Commission, have been systematically targeted and undermined. He revealed that the SEC had previously sought Central assistance for security three years ago, citing attempts by Jagan to manipulate the electoral process and coerce “volunteers” into engaging in illicit activities.

One of Naidu’s most serious allegations pertains to the appointment of a non-believer in Hindu traditions as the chairman of the Trust Board of the revered Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). This move, he contended, signalled a departure from a long-standing tradition requiring non-Hindus to submit a mandatory declaration before seeking darshan of Lord Venkateswara. Moreover, Naidu drew attention to over 250 reported incidents of attacks on Hindu temples in the past four years, coupled with encroachments on properties associated with the Wakf Board and churches.

Naidu did not shy away from sharing personal experiences of the deteriorating security situation, recounting a recent orchestrated attack on his person during a visit to various locales. In a startling display of defiance against a High Court order that restored his security, Chief Minister Jagan openly announced intentions to strip Naidu of his security detail on August 10, 2023.

In light of these grave concerns, Naidu has urged President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi to take immediate action to restore law and order in Andhra Pradesh and protect the fundamental rights of its citizens.
