Posani Krishna Murali, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Film, TV, and Theatre Development Corporation, has announced that the State government will exclusively present Nandi Awards in the field of theatre.
The awards will be presented in various categories, including ‘Padya Natika’ (Poetry Plays), Social Plays, and Social Playlets.
At a press conference here on Tuesday, Posani stated that Nandi Awards will be given in five categories pertaining to theatre arts. A total of 73 Nandi Awards will be presented to the winners in their respective fields.
He said that the Corporation will release a notification on Wednesday outlining the five categories of theatre art competitions, and all the details will be made available on the commission’s website. He urged drama societies to take advantage of this opportunity.
Posani Krishna Murali expressed concern over the improper distribution of Nandi Awards during the previous government led by Nara Chandrababu Naidu. “Unfortunately, I received the Best Character Artist award for the movie ‘Temper,’ starring Jr NTR, during that time. However, the awards were abruptly discontinued. It is unfortunate that the announced awards were never presented.”
He also expressed disappointment over not receiving any awards despite having written dialogues for over 150 films.
He mentioned that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy suggested a transparent approach in presenting Nandi Awards as a film artist, and he vowed to uphold the CM’s trust. Posani further stated that this year, there will be no Nandi Awards for the film and TV sectors, and the plans for future Nandi Awards presentations will be formulated starting from next year.
Speaking at the event, T Vijay Kumar Reddy, Commissioner of Information and Public Relations, stated that Telugu theatre societies from both Andhra Pradesh and other states can register for these competitions. The application period will be one month, with an additional week for withdrawal.
Reddy mentioned that the jury members will watch the preliminary rounds of the plays, and those selected in the preliminary round will proceed to the final round. Awards will be presented in five categories, namely Padya Natakam, Social Plays, Social Playlets, Children’s Playlets, and Youth Playlets. A total of 73 awards will be distributed to recognise the best artists and technicians in these categories.
