Narayana asks civic bodies to focus on water, roads, drains and parks

Minister Ponguru Narayana has issued instructions to the Commissioners of Municipal Corporations to take all possible precautions to prevent water logging on roads during the rainy season. The minister has emphasised the need for regular cleaning and desilting of drains.
Minister Narayana held a review meeting with Commissioners of various Municipal Corporations, including Vijayawada, at the CDMA office on Friday. He directed the commissioners on the precautions to be taken during the rainy season and the development works to be undertaken in their respective corporations. Commissioner Dhyana Chandra was questioned about the heavy water logging on Vijayawada’s roads following recent rainfall. In addition to Vijayawada, other corporations have been advised to implement measures to prevent water logging. The minister instructed municipal officials to focus on roads, drinking water, sewers, parks, and street lighting.
The minister stressed that strict action must be taken against unauthorised layouts. Due to insufficient penalties, permissions are not being sought in advance for layouts. He suggested imposing heavy fines on layouts without proper permissions and directed commissioners to enforce strict measures regarding layout approvals. The minister also urged officials to complete the survey of tap connections in towns promptly.
Minister Narayana instructed officials to ensure that cattle and pigs are not seen on municipal roads, with a target to eliminate cattle from all municipal and corporate roads within the next 15 days. He also called for actions to ensure municipalities and corporations are free of pigs by September 30. The minister emphasised the need for rapid sterilisation of stray dogs and measures to prevent pet dogs from roaming the streets.
Officials were advised to ensure that commercial advertisement boards are not placed on central road dividers. Minister Narayana provided instructions on solid waste treatment and park management and suggested identifying genuine beneficiaries for the housing scheme for the poor. Municipal Department Director Hari Narayanan, TIDCO MD Saikant Verma, Mepma MD Tej Bharat, Town Planning Department Director Vidyulatha, Public Health Department Engineer-in-Chief Gopala Krishna Reddy, along with Commissioners from Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Guntur, Kakinada, Nellore, and Tirupati Municipalities, attended the meeting.
