Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA & UD), P Narayana, reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to fairness and transparency in supporting victims of the recent floods. He stressed that the government aims to “do justice to the last mile” by preparing detailed and accurate reports on the damage caused by the floods.
This process, which includes re-verification and supervisory checks, was discussed during a meeting chaired by the minister at the NTR district collectorate in Vijayawada on Sunday. The meeting focused on ensuring that reports detailing the losses sustained by flood victims were prepared with full transparency and accountability.
Key officials present at the meeting included Municipal Administration Department Director M Harinarayanan, Disaster Management Organisation MD Ronanki Kurmanath, District Collector Dr G Srijana, Joint Collector Dr Nidhi Meena, and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner HM Dhyanachandra.
Minister Narayana underlined the importance of commitment at the field level in the re-verification process, stating that the enumeration of approximately 1,75,000 households in Vijayawada’s urban areas, conducted by 4,036 enumerators, had been carried out without errors. He stressed that re-verification, especially under the supervision of special officers, was crucial to ensure that no victim was left unsupported.
In addition to addressing damage in individual homes, the minister acknowledged that families residing on the upper floors of apartment buildings also faced difficulties due to water entering the ground floors. The government is working to ensure that these families receive the necessary assistance.
During the meeting, Minister Narayana, along with Municipal Department Director M Harinarayanan, Disaster Management MD Ronanki Kurmanath, and NTR District Collector Dr G Srijana, answered questions from officers and staff regarding the re-verification and supervisory check process.
