National panel for STs points to land issues among tribals

National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has pointed out that tribals are facing land issues, students have not been paid pre and post matric scholarships and the deficiency of doctors in tribal villages.

Speaking to The Pioneer, the members said major problems are with Individual Forest Rights (IFR), Communal Forest Rights (CFR) and Community Forests Resources Rights (CFRR).

“We visited Adilabad and Khamam where tribals are in struggle with ownership of lands and technical glitches with Dharni Portal. Illegal plotting on the tribal lands, such as part of land is being transferred to non-tribals, they said.

On the paramedical and infrastructure facilities, they said that in Agency areas the posts of paramedical staff are vacant. For education there are again vacancies of teachers in colleges.

The review meeting was headed by Chairperson of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes Harsh Chouhan, along with Member of the Commission Ananta Nayak and Secretary Alka Tiwari.

The objective of the meeting was to review the implementation of constitutional and legal rights, review of socio-economic development and safeguards of the Scheduled Tribes in the state of Telangana. Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, along with all Heads of the Departments were present in the meeting from the State Government.

The Commission also drew the attention of the state towards the various issues relating to the tribals on basic amenities like electricity, roads and mobile connectivity in tribal areas.

The Commission asked the state to provide its attention towards atrocities against STs.

 As fake tribal caste certificates involving Lambadas is on the rise, it asked to initiate strict action against the officials and the person who issued and received the fake and or false Scheduled Tribe caste certificates.
