The Muslim United Front (MUF) and Muslim Joint Action Committee (MJAC) have called upon the coalition partners of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), namely the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Jana Sena, to collectively address concerns regarding the cancellation of the 4 per cent reservation for Muslim minorities. President of MUF and MJAC, Md Kaleem, has urged the top leadership of these parties, currently contesting in the ongoing elections, to present a unified stance on Muslim reservation rather than issuing separate statements. Kaleem highlighted that the BJP’s national leadership has been publicly announcing intentions to abolish Muslim reservations in Andhra Pradesh during numerous election rallies nationwide. He noted the apparent contradiction wherein the TDP, the principal party in the alliance, advises the Muslim community to disregard social media propaganda on reservations while failing to directly counter the statements made by BJP’s national leaders. Consequently, there is a pressing need for clarity regarding the stance on Muslim reservations. Furthermore, Kaleem pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Minister Piyush Goyal have openly articulated the BJP’s position on Muslim reservations in various states, whereas TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu seems to be attempting to mislead the Muslim community by asserting their commitment to safeguarding these reservations without explicitly addressing the statements made by BJP leaders.
Kaleem emphasized the necessity for the top leadership of the three NDA parties to convene and articulate a unified decision concerning the cancellation of reservations for Muslim minorities.
