Need to encourage scientific temper among kids stressed

Commissioner of School Education, S Suresh Kumar has underscored the need to ignite scientific curiosity in children from the school level and examine new trends, to invent a better new scientific society. He started the ‘South India Science Fair’ at Vijayawada on Sunday in which 210 projects from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Kerala and Telangana participated. He said that Andhra Pradesh has hosted the ‘South India Science Fair’ which is organised once in six years with projects from six states with the contribution of Visvesvaraya Industrial Technology Museum, Bangalore and this science fair will continue till February 1.
Suresh Kumar said that, along with the curriculum, the teachers should be responsible for organising science clubs, science trips, etc., so that every student will have an opportunity to become a scientist. B Srinivasa Rao, State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, said that science can be developed in children only when conducting experiments and projects in addition to lessons.  He said that programmes like these will help students to understand our cultural traditions as well as the science behind them.
Visvesvaraya Industrial Technology Museum Director K Saju Bhaskaran said that the science fair program reflects the cultural traditions of the South Indian states along with the different languages, which instils excitement and desire to achieve in the youth.
SCERT Director Dr B Pratap Reddy, Krishna District Education Officer Tahera Sultana, Science Fair Programme Coordinator Dr GR Bhagyashree, teachers, students of six states and others participated.
