Need to revive Panchayat Raj system in State: CollectorGovt wants to introduce Computer Automatic Penalty-imposing system in villages

Krishna District Collector DK Balaji has highlighted the importance of reviving the Panchayat Raj system in the State, emphasising that it was established following the Constitution. He made these remarks while participating in a workshop organized for Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs), Gram Panchayat Secretaries, and Engineering Assistants at the ZP Convention Hall in Machilipatnam on Wednesday.
At the event, he stressed the importance of strengthening local governance and enhancing the role of Panchayat Raj institutions to ensure effective rural development and administration. He instructed the officials to carry out all activities outlined in the Panchayat Development Plan by coordinating with PR Engineering Officials, as decided during the Gram Sabhas on August 23. After completing the work, he mentioned that the details would be made available to the public.
In this connection, he highlighted the importance of property tax which is the main source of income for all gram panchayats. He urged the Panchayat Secretaries to strengthen income sources and no property will be left over from the assessment. He said if the tax collection would be conducted effectively, the income would be increased. He directed the officials concerned to ensure 100 per cent tax collection.
The Collector mentioned that the State government is mulling introducing a Computer Automatic Tax Penalty-imposing system in all panchayats on the lines of municipalities to ensure 100 per cent property tax collection. If the panchayat’s income increases, it will be helpful to take up many developmental activities in villages, he explained.
Balaji asked the officials to propose visible assets to take new works in their respective villages. Also, he asked the officials to make efforts for the success of Palle Panduga Panchayati to be held from October 14 to 21.
