Nehru Zoological Park organises mass mobilisation programme

Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad conducted a mass mobilisation programme on Sunday as part of its sustainable Mission Lifestyle initiative. The programme aimed to promote environmental awareness among children and visitors, focused on adopting a sustainable lifestyle. Around 350 students from the Tribal Welfare Department actively participated in the day-long events.

The programme commenced with a screening of a short film in the Bioscope hall, emphasising the importance of saving and conserving water, energy, reducing waste, adopting sustainable food systems, reducing e-waste, embracing a healthy lifestyle, and saying ‘no’ to single-use plastics. Following the film, the students and zoo staff took a pledge for Lifestyle for Environment, committing to make conscious choices that benefit the environment.

As part of the Swachh Zoo programme, the visiting children and zoo staff engaged in cleanliness activities within the zoo premises. A talk show on birds was organised at the Birds school enclosure, featuring discussions led by Laxminarayana, Zoo Biologist, HM Hanifullah, PRO, and Hussain, Project Scientist. They provided detailed insights into each bird species present in the enclosure. Subsequently, the students were taken on a guided tour of the zoo, where they learnt about various species and their conservation.

In collaboration with the Friends of Snakes Society, an awareness show on snakes was conducted in the afternoon session, enlightening the participants about the significance of snake conservation and their role in the ecosystem.

Expressing their satisfaction, Prashant Bajirao Patil, Curator of the park, and A Nagamani, Dy Curator, commended the zoo for its continuous efforts in organising wildlife and environmental awareness programmes. They emphasised the importance of conducting such mass mobilisation programmes in line with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change’s directives to observe World Environment Day.
