Nepalese team visits VPA

A high-level delegation from the Embassy of Nepal in Kolkata visited the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Saturday, underscoring the growing importance of the port for Nepal’s trade. The visit follows Visakhapatnam Port’s record-breaking achievement of handling 42,550 containers for Nepal in the 2023-24 fiscal year, a staggering 161% increase compared to the previous year. This solidifies Visakhapatnam’s position as a key gateway for Nepal’s trade activities.
The delegation, led by Iswar Raj Poudel, Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata, included Janak Bhatta, Deputy Consulate General, and Taranath Adhikari, Economic Minister from the New Delhi embassy. During their discussions with VPA Chairperson Dr M  Angamuthu strategies to further increase cargo volume in the upcoming fiscal year were explored. The talks focused on optimizing existing transit facilities at the port and the potential expansion of customs boundaries for smoother operations. Dr. Angamuthu assured the delegation of continued support for Nepal-bound cargo and reiterated VPA’s commitment to facilitating Nepal’s trade growth.
Both parties acknowledged the significant benefits of improved logistics and infrastructure at Visakhapatnam Port. This will enhance trade efficiency and cater to the rising demands of Nepali trade. Optimistic about the future, both sides expressed a desire to build on this success and explore new avenues for collaboration. This visit signifies the strengthening ties between Visakhapatnam Port and Nepal, reflecting a shared vision for economic prosperity and fostering regional connectivity.
