Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, K Pawan Kalyan, has emphasised the need for maintaining high quality and transparency in ongoing rural development projects under the Employment Guarantee Scheme.
The Deputy CM highlighted the importance of effectively using funds received from the 15th Finance Commission and the Employment Guarantee Scheme provided by the Union government, calling for practices rooted in transparency and accountability.
Officials carried out quality inspections of development works across 13,326 panchayats throughout Andhra Pradesh. During a review session on Sunday, Pawan Kalyan met with Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Commissioner Krishna Teja, Employment Guarantee Scheme officials, and engineering representatives. He outlined the 2024-25 development targets, including the construction of 3,000 km of cement roads, 500 km of BT (Bitumen Tar) roads, 22,525 Gokulams (animal shelters), 25,000 farm ponds, and numerous water conservation ditches, covering 30,000 acres in total. These initiatives are already underway as part of the ‘Palle Panduga’ programme.
Pawan Kalyan underscored that each phase of the projects must uphold strict quality standards, assuring that funds allocated to panchayats are neither misused nor diverted.
He emphasized the importance of keeping the public informed about project progress to build transparency and trust, contrasting this approach with the practices of the previous government. Citizen Information Boards will be instrumental in detailing fund utilization and specific works being carried out in each panchayat.
The Deputy Chief Minister also commended the successful execution of Gram Sabhas across the state during the ‘Palle Panduga’ events, which gained national recognition. He called for the same level of commitment in completing current projects, urging the state to set an example of high standards and transparency in rural development.
