Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman blasted Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for cracking jokes on the five trillion USD economy target of the NDA government.

She asked KCR as to how the Rs 600 billion debt in 2014 became Rs 3,000 billion in 2023. She said that the Centre gave Rs 1,390 billion to the Telangana government as grants from 2014.

Participating in a conclave on the Union Budget organised by Doordarshan on Thursday at Novotel in Hitech City in Hyderabad, Nirmala asked BRS leaders to speak after checking numbers.

Giving a counter to the proposals of the BRS government on Medical Colleges to the Centre, she expressed anger over KCR saying that he did not send proposals on medical colleges even though the Centre asked for it.

She said that the Centre rejected the proposals sent by the BRS government as it had sought medical colleges for Khammam and Karimnagar where medical colleges exist.

She ridiculed KCR saying that he did not know which districts had medical colleges in Telangana. She said that the state government did not give proper data on medical colleges. “Now KCR has to think on whom the tag ‘no data available’ would fit,” she said.

Nirmala said that the Centre had established 157 medical colleges across the nation from 2014. The Centre is also establishing nursing colleges where medical colleges existed, she said. She made it clear that the Centre has been spending more than the allocated amounts in Telangana on MNREGA works.
